Soon to disappear (2023)

✏️ : Prototype of an Augmented reality app that captures and shares the stories of communities living in buildings destined to be demolished
🛠️ : Augmented Reality, Unity, field research

Through augmented reality, Soon to Disappear captures and shares the stories of communities living in buildings soon to be demolished in the city of Geneva. This project offers a reflection on our relationship with collective memory and built heritage. How can we capture the stories and memories of the communities that shared those buildings?

When engaging with the app, users are invited to leave their mark by drawing in augmented reality on the buildings’ walls and experiencing a series of narratives. Each virtual drawing and associated story adds to a collective creation: forming a digital archive that preserves the memories held within these places.

Field research

The project came from a body of research gathered from walks through the city, observation and collection of stories and memories associated with these locations.

During my field research, I asked communities to draw and illustrate their relationship to buildings around them that were about to be demolished.
