Imaginary islands have been in philosophy and literature since the Antiquity, for example Atlantis in Plato’s dialogues or Utopia in Thomas More's 1516's book. Later, they also became famous among movies, TV shows, videos games and comics. They are symbols of fantasy, freedom, imagination, and utopian societies and civilizations. Inspired by all those stories, our project aims to recreate fictional islands. In order to generate those islands, we trained an artificial intelligence with a dataset of 700 areal-view images of real islands.

We created a map with a generated island, Utopia, to document it as if we had discovered it. Utopia is the island of nothing and everything, where imagination and reality meet.
Through augmented reality, visitors can scan the map and discover new fictional islands.
